Honda Associates Serve, Reflect on MLK’s Dream
This week, Honda associates across the U.S. participated in events – mostly virtual due to the pandemic – and volunteered to mark the significance of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.and reflect on the ideals of racial justice and equality for all.
With the recent social justice movement, the work of Dr. King takes on special significance this year, as it is clear his vision of equality has yet to be realized.
Associates at American Honda (AHM) had an opportunity to help brighten the days of others by writing thoughtful letters to seniors, children and veterans. AHM is partnering with three organizations: Love for Our Elders, Cardz For Kidz, and Operation Gratitude to deliver letters to those who could use a kind word, to ease social isolation and let them know someone cares.
Lastly, in honor of MLK day, the Prism Business Resource Group (BRG) is encouraging its colleagues to support the Los Angeles LGBT Center by making a donation via the Amazon Food Pantry wish list.
Associates at AHM in Alpharetta, Georgia are writing letters to be delivered through Meals on Wheels Atlanta, which supports seniors struggling with food insecurity and social isolation.
Associates from Honda of America Mfg. (HAM) and Honda R&D Americas (HRA-O) once again served as platinum sponsors of the 36th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday breakfast. Roughly 40 associates were planning to attend the virtual event, themed, “NOW Is The Time.”
Honda R&D Americas (HRA) associates also supported the King Arts Complex in Columbus, Ohio, in its annual open house and celebration, held virtually this year. This annual event is an excellent opportunity for children, families, and friends to enjoy musical and live theatrical performances.
Associates also have an opportunity to help brighten the days of others by writing thoughtful letters to seniors, children and veterans. HRA is partnering with three organizations: Love for Our Elders, Cardz For Kidz, and Operation Gratitude to deliver letters to those who could use a kind word, to ease social isolation and let them know someone cares.
Honda Manufacturing of Indiana (HMIN) was the presenting sponsor of the MLK Day/Canned Food Drive at the Indianapolis Zoo, which is typically closed on Mondays.
In addition, for associates at HMIN, there was an educational display posted on patio windows at the plant and on HondaTV showing a timeline of Dr. King’s life, and how his message correlates to Honda’s core values. Associates were also able to participate in a raffle by sharing their thoughts on “What is your DREAM?”
In Alabama, associates continued their MLK Day of Service projects by hosting two virtual events, a “Winter of Warmth” winter essentials drive until Jan. 31 and a virtual letter writing campaign to elderly neighbors from Monday, Jan. 18 – Sunday, Jan. 31.
Honda of South Carolina associates served at the Pee Dee Coalition Against Domestic Violence site in Florence, South Carolina, as an extension of United Way’s Day of Service. HSC is assisting with replacing gutters and a downspout at the facility’s entrance door and trimming bushes next to the building and the parking area. In addition, there are plans to build a ramp at the entrance door for wheelchair accessibility.
Thanks to all the Honda associates who helped make our communities better in memory of Dr. King
