Credit Union Provides Students with New Book Bags

Students at Brockington Elementary School in Darlington, South Carolina went back to school in style this year, thanks to the local branch of the Honda Federal Credit Union (HFCU).

The credit union purchased 324 colorful new backpacks for students at the school. Many of the students – more than 30% – have a family connection to Honda South Carolina Mfg., which produces all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and Side-by-Side (SxS) vehicles.

“The children were very grateful and kind,” said Meghann Hixson, HFCU Branch Manager in Timmonsville, South Carolina. “They had wonderful manners.”

Credit union associates worked with the school in February of this year for a Read Across America project and made a great connection with the staff and students at Brockington Elementary.

The response from students about their new book bags says it all:

  • “My book bag is cool.”
  • “I will use my book bag forever.”
  • “I will take care of my book bag. Thank you Honda credit union.”

HFCU has nine branches in the U.S. serving associates and their families within the Honda family of companies.
