Honda Co-ops learn “cost of poverty”
For those of us who have never “walked in their shoes,” we probably have a hard time understanding what life is like for a person who lives in poverty.
The fall Co-ops at Honda of America Mfg. Inc. (HAM) participated in an activity recently designed to provide insight into real situations and barriers families and individuals face when living in poverty.
The Cost of Poverty Experience, or COPE was a 3-hour interactive event that offered a glimpse into the lives of low-income individuals and families living in the community.
The role that the broader community plays in their interactions with low-income families was also captured in the experience.
HAM is planning on doing this activity again in the future, with some members from its leadership team.
It is estimated that 46 million Americans live in poverty.
