Honda Associates Pitch in at Ronald McDonald House

February 2, 2017 – More than 25 associates from Honda of America Mfg., Inc. volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House in Columbus, Ohio recently.

One of the team’s tasks was to assemble cookies and snacks for the many families utilizing the location. In addition to baking, Honda volunteers also refurbished rooms, moved furniture, assisted with cleaning chores and restocked family guest rooms.

The mission of Ronald McDonald House is to serve every family who needs a home-away-from-home while local hospitals treat their child.

The Columbus location, which sits across the street from Nationwide Children’s Hospital, is the largest Ronald McDonald House in the world. It houses 137 guest rooms, five long-term stay houses, three common areas, a commercial kitchen, a rooftop garden and new playground.

It can provide over 35,000 nights each year to an average of 350 people daily.

Wanda Gaines, who works in Assembly at the Marysville Auto Plant near Columbus, spent her day cleaning rooms at the facility.

“It was great to see our associates come together for such a rewarding event,” said Gaines. “I enjoyed learning more about the organization.”

Tina Taylor who also works at Marysville Auto Plant, on second shift with the export team, volunteered as well.

“If making a bed for a family allows them to focus on their child getting better, then my part will be to make sure it’s the cleanest most sanitized comfortable bed they can rest on. I was honored to volunteer.”

The day of volunteering was a win-win for associates who felt great about volunteering and enjoyed the fellowship. Honda of America Mfg., Inc. has supported Ronald McDonald House of Central Ohio since 2005, providing over 10 grants to the organization.
