The Honda UNI-CUB wasn’t the fastest vehicle on the grounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the month of May, but Honda’s newest personal mobility device sent creative young minds racing during a STEM education demonstration sponsored by Honda Performance Development.

Held at the site of the Indianapolis 500, the UNI-CUB was part of a demonstration for middle-school and high-school aged children from Central Indiana, showing the kids some of what is possible if they continue studying STEM subjects.

The students got to see one of the Honda Indy cars and hear from drivers Ryan Hunter-Reay and 2016 Indianapolis 500 champion Alexander Rossi, about how they got started in racing.

The students also heard from long-time HPD engineer Tom Reichenbach about how he uses his STEM education to make race cars go faster. After the drivers spoke, the UNI-CUB was rolled out to the delight of the hundreds of students in attendance. The device was demonstrated and the students got the chance to ask questions about the device, and the engineering involved in its creation.

There are currently plans to do similar events centered around the Indy Car event in Mid-Ohio and Sonoma later in the year.
