Volunteers Join Million Meal Marathon
Many families in Indiana – 157,000 to be exact – will get a little relief from hunger this month thanks to the annual Million Meal Marathon.
Thousands of volunteers gathered alongside Indianapolis Colts players and cheerleaders on Nov. 13, in an attempt to pack one million meals in one day at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Associates from Honda Manufacturing of Indiana joined 3,000 volunteers to help pack meals for their neighbors in need. Honda volunteers worked three out of four shifts and had about 28 volunteers pitch in with meal packing.
Although the volunteers fell short of their ambitious one million goal – having packed 630,000 meals – Honda associates said it was an incredible volunteer experience.
All meals packed at the Million Meal Marathon will be distributed to food pantries throughout Indiana. In addition, local police departments hand out the meals to people in need.
One in five children in Indiana does not know where their next meal is coming from, according to the Million Meal Marathon.
