Honda Associates Join AIDS Walk Ohio
For the first time, Honda associates in Ohio participated in the AIDS Walk Ohio this month.
Participation in the 5K walk was organized through Spectrum, one of Honda’s Business Resource Groups (BRGs) supporting LGBTQ+ associates.
The walk had an exceptional turnout for a first-time event, with 30 people including associates, contractors, friends, family and retirees, and the weather was perfect considering the threats of early morning showers.
“The experience was a bit overwhelming, we had some walkers in our group that had personal ties to the cause,” said Brooke Lawrence, vice president of Spectrum (BRG) and an associate at the Marysville Auto Plant. “It really feels great that through our BRGs, Honda is making strides to support society and our customers.”
AIDS Walk Central Ohio raises HIV/AIDS awareness and provides critical funds for AIDS Service Organizations across the state. One of the organizations supported by the walk is Equitas Health, formerly the AIDS Resource Center Ohio, a not-for-profit community-based healthcare system.
The mission of Equitas Health is to be the gateway to good health for those at risk of or affected by HIV/AIDS, for the LGBTQ community, and for those seeking a welcoming healthcare home.
Craig Diaz, Director of Development at Equitas Health, was a recent guest facilitator at a Honda BRG lunch and learn event and that relationship is part of why Spectrum decided to participate this year. “I have personally participated with this organization for the last three years,” said Lawrence. “It is a cause that is near and dear to LGBTQ Community and it is important to raise awareness along with providing support for the medical resource services that are necessary for the disease.”
