A Ride for a Reason
December 14, 2016 – The only thing easier than recruiting motorcycle enthusiasts for a ride on a sunny, fall day is to ask them to do it for kids. The Honda Aircraft Company team, located in Greensboro, N.C., partnered with the U.S. Marine Corps to hold its inaugural Toys for Tots ride in November. Coordinated by Honda associates Olman Velazquez, Allison Gentry and Rex Sheffield, the ride included team members and families, along with two Marines and their Hummer.
The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community.
The participants gathered at the Honda Aircraft Greensboro facility before the ride and traveled to the nearby Toys for Tots drop-off point.
“With more than 25 motorcycles and a few cars, we had a greater turnout than we expected for our first ride,” said Velazquez, after donating 150 toys this year.
The team has already planned to hold next year’s event on Nov. 4.
