Honda Supports Students’ Trip to Washington
Honda continued its tradition of supporting the communities in which we live and work by helping more than 50 students from Miles College in Alabama attend the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s (CBCF) 46th Annual Legislative Conference.
Honda has supported the CBCF Annual Legislative Conference, the major policy conference on issues impacting African-Americans and the African-American community, in various ways for several years.
This year, Honda worked with U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell’s (AL-7) office to assist Miles College, a Historically Black College and University, in its pursuit to bring students to attend the conference in addition to sponsoring two events held by U.S. Rep. Joyce Beatty (OH-3).
Rep. Sewell and Honda associates greeted the students at the Capitol, where they later engaged in a discussion about the importance of public service and corporate social responsibility. While attending the conference in Washington, the students sat in on Rep. Sewell’s panel on increasing diversity in the intelligence community.
“The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference serves as an ideal platform for discussions on the most prevalent issues facing the African-American community and our country,” said Dr. George T. French, Jr., president of Miles College. “The Conference facilitates productive conversations about solutions to these topics. Miles College has demonstrated commitment to ensuring participation in such vital discussions and being productive participants in our great country.”
Honda’s sponsorship of Rep. Beatty’s events included a panel discussion titled: “Money, Wealth and Disparity,” focused on the growing wealth gap in the United States, particularly pertaining to African-American communities. Additionally, Honda sponsored a reception hosted by Rep. Beatty’s non-profit, the Fire and Focus Scholarship Fund, which was attended by several prominent figures including Rev. Jesse Jackson and U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee (CA-13).
Supporting a meaningful and productive event such as the CBCF’s Annual Legislative Conference enables Honda to highlight its presence in the United States and build relationships with legislators as the company strives to bring about positive community change.
