HMA Associates Celebrate Earth Day

On Earth Day, Honda Manufacturing of Alabama (HMA) co-ops partnered with the City of Ashville, Alabama and the Freshwater Land Trust (FWLT) organization to beautify their city.

Around 20 HMA co-ops, hailing from Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Tennessee, volunteered to clean-up around Canoe Creek, a river that runs through the heart of Ashville. The students painted the entrance to the city sign, removed invasive species, spruced up area landscaping and planted flowers as part of the revitalization project. After completing the tasks, the co-ops were able to go fishing and kayaking in Canoe Creek.

For the last three years, HMA has partnered with the FWLT in planning sustainable Earth Day projects. Projects have included planting American chestnut trees as part of a reintroduction of the nearing extinct tree; cleaning a preserve river bank; planting flowers and installing pavers for an outdoor therapy pavilion for use by grieving individuals.

FWLT is a nonprofit organization whose mission is the acquisition and stewardship of lands that enhance water quality and preserve open space, For more information on FWLT, go to http://www.freshwaterlandtrust.org
