Honda Companies Celebrate Earth Day with Variety of Events

Honda companies across North America celebrated Earth Day with tree plantings, environmental fairs, park clean-ups and more.

At Honda of America Mfg. (HAM) several locations in Ohio held Earth Day Fairs with more than 2,000 associates participating. The fairs were organized by the EARTH Business Resource Group, comprised of environmentally-minded Honda associates. HAM associates also planted over 450 trees and nearly 1,000 plants at The Wilds, a wildlife conservation area operated by the Columbus Zoo.

Honda Manufacturing of Indiana (HMIN) was a sponsor of the Annual Earth Day Indiana Festival. The event included live music, a 5K run/walk, local food vendors, kid’s activities, and over 125 exhibitors. HMIN’s booth featured a spin wheel with prizes, education about its green initiatives at the plant, and an activity table for children. The first 500 people who stopped by the booth received an earth-friendly flower planter.

In addition, HMIN participated in a Togetherhood Event: Come on Greensburg, Make it CLEANSBURG. Volunteers from local businesses joined together in this community event to clean up some of Greensburg’s most litter-prone areas.

And Honda of South Carolina (HSC) planned its first Earth Day Celebration as “Earth Week” this year. To celebrate Earth Day, several events were scheduled in order to involve all HSC associates, they included:

-A Q&A session that was held in the cafeteria for associates interested in asking questions related to Earth Day and other environmental topics. All associates had an opportunity to receive a free reusable grocery bag to encourage use of reusable bags and reduce pollution of plastic bags;

-The Earth Week team attended an Earth Day ceremony at a local school. Prior to the event, artwork and essays created by the students were judged and the winners were announced by HSC’s Earth Week team during the ceremony. The artwork and essays indicated that the students are concerned about the environment and want to stop pollution;

-A tree planting ceremony that the children led at local Timmonsville School (FSD4) with HSC associate support; and

-For the last event, all supervisors and above were assigned an area for outside cleanup. Associates were assigned regions of Honda Way, the road leading into the plant. HSC has adopted Honda Way as a part of the Adopt-A-Highway program in South Carolina.

Honda associates are passionate about the environment and it shows.
