Two-day event in Ohio raises $120,000 to fight pediatric brain tumors

Fighting childhood cancer is a cause that pulls at the heartstrings. As a long-time supporter of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation®, several Ohio-based Honda companies held their annual fundraising events last month.

About 80 associates from Honda R&D Americas, Inc. (HRA) in Ohio participated in the Run 4 Kids event on July 14. With the help of Honda, the runners were able to raise more than $60,000. This event provided associates a great opportunity, to not only support an important charitable cause, but to do so with family and friends, in their very own community.

“HRA associates have fun and fulfilling experiences participating in this race,” said Samantha Lynch, philanthropy and community relations leader for Honda R&D Americas, Inc. “As an organization, we believe it is important to give back to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, and support their cause every year.”

The runners were cheered on by nearly 20 of their colleagues from Honda of America Mfg., Inc’s (HAM) Marysville Auto Plant, who supported walkers and runners alike along their route.

The following day, HAM volunteers registered riders and participated in the official send off for the 2017 Marysville Ride for Kids® event. More than 225 motorcyclists showed their support for local childhood brain tumor survivors and families by raising $60,199.

Participants completed a 50-mile ride through the backroads of central Ohio and across many covered bridges before reconvening in Marysville. Both events took place at Marysville Honda, which has been a strong supporter of the PBTF and Ride for Kids during the past 12 years.

The PBTF is the world’s largest nonprofit solely dedicated to the pediatric brain tumor community. It serves more than 28,000 children and teens in the United States living with a brain tumor diagnosis.

Honda has sponsored this event since its first ride in 1991 as a way to help fund the research needed to discover a cure for this terrible disease. Money raised by Ride for Kids helps fund lifesaving research and life-changing family support programs.

As a proud partner of PBTF, Honda has supported rides across a number of its operations in the United States. While each Honda location adds its own twist to its Ride for Kids event, the focus remains on two things – the children and Honda’s commitment to help the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation bring an end to this terrible disease.
