Associates in Indy “Stuff the Bus” for Back to School

For two weeks in July, associates at Honda Manufacturing of Indiana (HMIN) were invited to donate school supplies for area children and families in need, and they delivered. Through associates’ generosity, HMIN collected over 1,355 items. Those donations benefitted the Back to School Bash in Greensburg and the Stuff the Bus event in Indianapolis.

Greensburg’s 2017 Back to School Bash event was held Tuesday, July 25. The event was open to students who were in need of school supplies prior to the start of the school year. HMIN prepared and donated 50 Honda backpacks to the event. Each backpack contained folders, notebooks, markers, colored pencils, pens, pencils, crayons, hand sanitizer, scissors, glue sticks, and an art box, eraser, binder, box of tissues, and ruler.

“We greatly appreciate the donations made by HMIN. Because of your generous donations each year, we are able to send more Decatur County and Greensburg students back to school with much needed supplies,” said Nicole Smith of Decatur County Community Schools. “Thank you for your generosity.”

As presenting sponsor for the third consecutive year, HMIN delivered donated items and set up a booth at the Stuff the Bus event on Friday, July 28. Promoted by a live radio broadcast, listeners and community members were invited to drop off school supplies with the ultimate goal of filling a school bus full. Donations benefit Shepherd Community Center in Indianapolis, in support of providing school supplies to local school-aged children and their families in need.

“As one of our four focus areas, giving back in the area of education is important to us,” said Emily Flanigan, community and communications lead at HMIN. “It’s particularly impactful and rewarding when we are able to match the generosity of our associates with existing community partnerships.”
